Rainbow Run

rbr14Date: 5th & 6th April 2014
Job: Bump In/Out – Registration – Water Station Marshal

Overview:
I travelled from Melbourne to Albury with a group of people for the Rainbow run. On the Saturday I was involved in setting up registration on the main street of Albury to give participants their t-shirts and wristbands for the day & to sign up anyone who still wished to participate, dressing up in silly colourful wigs to get the participants ready for the following day. I then helped packed down and set up registration at the race course. On the Sunday I helped make sure everything was completed for registration & the volunteers section. I then set up the water-station in which I was allocated as my job. At the start of the race I got involved with pumping up the crowd, spraying participants with colour before they started the run, then went back to the water station and made sure all the participants were hydrated after the run and cheering them on at the finish line.

Future/Goodlife Music Festival

fmf14Date: 6th March 2014
Job: Bump In

Overview:
I was apart of the team that helped set up the venue, the different jobs I was involved in were; putting up mesh on fences, putting up sign-age, moving equipment & setting up different areas for the festival. You don’t realise the hard work that goes into setting up a big festival event until you get involved and do it yourself. it was a great experience working with different people to get the job done on this day.

Change Day Flashmob

IMG_1252Date: 4th March 2014
Job: Dancer – Flyer handout

Overview:
I was given the opportunity to do a Flash-Mob dance in the middle of Northern Hospital in Epping for “Change Day” which is a charity organisation that is non-funded/profited charity run for one day a year promoting that you make a pledge, to make a change that would better yourself and the community.

My Events class and I joined in with Jason Coleman and his dance class to do a Flash-mob to raise awareness of this organisation & change day by dancing in the foyer, then after the dance we handed out flyers to people, for them to help and make a pledge at the hospital or on their website.

It definitely brought me out of my comfort zone by dancing but it was very fun and it was great to get involved as it is such a different organisation.

The video of the flash-mob is below –

Overview:
I had never been to an event like this before, i had heard about the Colour Run but never seen it in action, it had such an amazing atmosphere. After the last participant ran through I helped the team clean up all the cups and other bits and pieces in our area of the course, then went back to the finish line to hand out goodies to the participants and spectators as they partied on after the run.

Soundwave Music Festival

sw14Date: 28th February 2014
Job: Crowd Care

Overview:
Having attended this festival in the past i was interested to know what it would be like to be on the other-side and being apart of the volunteers, so i applied and got the position of crowd care.

My role was to make sure all the customers/ attendees of the festival were safe and healthy. I walked around different areas making sure everyone was enjoying themselves and offered out the festival booklets and maps to everyone walking by.

If anyone was lost or looking for something particular I would direct them, hurt or dehydrated I made sure first aid was notified, otherwise I just smiled, high-five’d and made sure the crowd was having fun.

My First Event – Business Chicks Breakfast

(Excuse the blurriness of this photo)
Date: 13th/14th February 2014
Jobs: Bump in/out – Greeting/ registration – Charity raffle Collection/prizes

Overview:
The event was a Business Chicks (a company that inspires & brings women together who work in the business industry) Breakfast with guest speaker Michelle Bridges!

This was my first event, I was given an offer to do this in my orientation week of school, i jumped on the opportunity straight away as i was eager to get experience as soon as possible. I was very nervous and excited, i didn’t know what to expect at all.

I was apart of the set up for the event the night before the actual event, i met the event crew for Business Chicks, they made us feel very welcome and helped with everything we needed to know and understood it was a few of our very first event.

On the morning of the event, we finished setting up things that were not able to be done, then jumped straight into our roles. I was on registration, handing out name badges and collecting business cards from all the attendees, once everyone arrived and were seated, I moved into another role, charity raffle collection, going to tables to sell raffles for Michelle’s charity of choice “Black Dog”(this charity works on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorders) and then handing out prizes to the winners of the raffle. After the event, once everyone had left, I stuck around and helped with the pack-down and had the opportunity to speak with both Michelle and her partner Steve Willis (Commando)

This event was definitely a great start in the Events field, it was an amazing experience and I look forward to volunteering with Business Chicks in the future.
